Professor Antti Ylä-Jääski and Data Communications Software Group from CSE Department have been awarded 500 000 Euro funding for eMo –project by the Academy of Finland. Energy-Optimized Mobile Computing (eMo) aims to provide models for understanding and evaluating the energy consumption of existing protocols and applications in mobile devices and access networks, and based on these models develop new solutions for mobile computing that consume radically less energy than the currently used ones. Energy consumption is a concern with today’s mobile devices. While the capabilities of the devices have improved rapidly over the last ten years transforming also the way … Read more

Sami Kiminki Received the CrownCom 2011 Student Paper Award

posted in News, Research

Sami Kiminki (Embedded Software Group) received the best student paper award of the CrownCom 2011 conference, which was held in Osaka, Japan. The paper, titled Design and Performance Trade-offs in Parallelized RF SDR Architecture, studies the RF hardware design challenges and the performance opportunities of future multi-radio architectures. When multiple protocols are executed concurrently on shared resources, front-end filter requirements must be tightened to avoid receiver desensitization due to in-device interference. However, resource sharing enables better in-chip resource utilization, which can provide significant improvements in system-level data throughputs. The paper was written in co-operation with researchers of Micro- and Nanosciences department and Nokia Research Center. The full … Read more
