Welcome to Department of Computer Science and Engineering!
The research and education at the department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) cover a broad range of topics in applied computer science and software engineering. The areas of interest include all layers and phases in the development of software-based systems and the new, often revolutionary applications and services enabled by software. Both our research and education are characterized by constructive and experimental approaches, and by close connections to the software and ICT industry. Many of our projects are multidisciplinary taking advantage of the opportunities created by Aalto University.
The department has been designated as a national Center of Excellence in university education. We provide much of the teaching in the CSE degree program, on both Bachelor and Master level. The department runs several Master’s programs for international students and most advanced course are lectured in English. The education is closely linked to research done by the teachers and includes a strong hands-on component. Our aim is to prepare students to the most demanding jobs in the software and ICT industries. The department also produces basic programming courses for other study programs at Aalto University. Therefore, particular attention is paid to pedagogical excellence and tools for basic computer-science education.
We now have 13 professors and some 200 researchers, doctoral students and staff. We are part of the School of Science in Aalto University, located on the Otaniemi campus in the middle of a vibrant research and hi-tech enterprise community.
